Coaching4Transition
Are you currently unemployed needing a new job position, employed but don't like where you are or what you are doing, or do you want to re-enter the workforce?
Coaching4Transition, taught by Walter Tieck Jr., Career Transition Coach, meets Tuesday evenings from 6:00 -8:00 at the church. Anyone is invited to attend. Each week we will focus on a different area of career transition, including opportunities to network, share ideas and help each other. The course encourages families to grow, learn, and achieve new things through our life, while helping each other through touch times.
Emmanuel Lutheran Ladies Guild Needs You
The Emmanuel Lutheran Ladies Guild has some exciting programs planned for the upcoming school year and would like to invite you to participate which will enrich your Spiritual, Social and Outreach Christian life
Just some of the programs include:
Mite Breakfast - this is held every 2nd Sunday during the 9:30 A.M. Sunday School Hour. At this breakfast you will experience a variety of tasty, filling breakfasts items. The donations collected will allow our congregation to send delegates to the LWML meetings and conventions. See Jane Glassford if you would like to help serve or help provide a breakfast item.
September Mite Breakfast - October 12 during Sunday School Hour
Mount Juliet Help Center - This year we plan to help support the Mount Juliet Help Center's Food Pantry. Each month, we will be collecting donations of different food items. Announcements will be made as to each month's theme. For more information, please contact Debbie Greene.
Ladies Guild Jellies - It is getting close to jelly making season. The sale of the jellies helps fund many of the Ladies Guild projects such as providing a little extra monthly support to our members who are attending Seminary, organizing and supplementing flowers for the sanctuary, and supplementing donations for the lunches provided to a local hospital for families who have loved ones in intensive care. You do not need to have previous jelly making experience to participate. Please contact Jane Glassford for more information.
Jelly Making Day - October 18
Hospital Lunches - Every month, the Ladies Guild provides non-perishable lunches to Summit Hospital's Intensive Care Unit. These lunches are designed to ease some of the stress of family members, both large and small, who had a loved one become an unexpected patient of Summit Hospital Intensive Care Unit. These lunches allow the family to remain with their loved one during the trying times. We receive many letters thanking us for touching individual lives just when they needed it most. You can help by donating food items, helping assemble the lunches or by delivering them to the hospital. If you would like more information, please contact Jane Glassford.
But all work and no play ... is just no fun!
We also have a number of social events planned, including:
Our Annual Christmas Party - Secret Pals will be revealed and new Pals will be chosen. A Dirty Santa game may make an appearance.
Spa Day - Receive and give a facial, pedicure or make up tips. All ages are invited. If you can not wait for more information, contact Debbie Greene or Trish Braunschweig to get the scoop.
Lauren McComb is putting together a Spiritual Outing and would welcome any help.
If you have a passion or exciting idea, it is not too late to join and be a part. Please contact the church office for additional information.
Coming Soon...
Let's Feed Some Kids!
CART --- Communication Access Realtime Translation --- will be coming soon to Emmanuel Lutheran Church during the second service. Our CART writer, Karyn Menck, is one of an elite group of CART writers nationwide. She will be doing "Remote Captioning", meaning that she will writing our late worship service each week from a remote location. A replacement will be provided when she is unavailable. Karyn will listen to Pastor Keith via his microphone, the church computer and Karyn's computer will connect as she types what he says, which is then projected to the big screens. Karyn uses a special machine similar to a court reporter uses, and can write close to 300 words per minute, with very few errors, which she corrects almost immediately. We are very fortunate to have her here in Nashville, We plan to market this to the hard of hearing community in Nashville, as we will be the ONLY church that offers captioning service. Our target audience is the hard of hearing, not the deaf from birth community. The two groups are quite different and have different needs. The deaf community primarily depends on American Sign Language (ASL) and attend one of two all deaf congregations --- one just a mile from Emmanuel (Church of Christ) and the other in Brentwood. However, the hard of hearing depend on the English printed word primarily. Some learn Contact or Conversational Sign Language (which is taught by Kate Kanies teaches at Emmanuel on Tuesday evenings at 6:00.), which uses ASL signs, but in English order. It's much more natural and easier to learn for native English speakers. More to come about the induction loop system we will be installing in the future.
AFTER SERVICE PRAYER TEAM
For those interested in being on the team, contact Pastor Keith. For those desiring prayer, just come forward to the altar area. For privacy, the side rooms may be used also.
